COVID Glow Up

I own a gym, and we got shut down in March for two months, so I focused more on my nutrition.

I turn 30 next month, yikes, but I am in the best shape of my life by far…but how did I lose

16.1 POUNDS and 7.6% Body Fat in 5 Months?

If you know me, you know that I’ve been into fitness (CrossFit mainly) for years. I’ve been a CrossFit member, coach or owner for over four years straight now, and have been doing it for more than just everyday exercise. The good news is that I didn’t have to change my workout routine at all. I needed help with my nutrition.

BEFORE

  • Full Disclosure: This picture is not from right before COVID, but I was was pretty much stuck in more-or-less the same shape for a LONG time.

  • This is a picture of me well into my CrossFit journey.

  • I was working out 5 or 6x per week.

  • This picture is actually from a competition I felt great about.

  • I had been paying attention to my nutrition for at least a year at this point… but was doing it on my own.

  • In February 2020, I weighed 167.5lbs and was 14.5% BodyFat.

AFTER

  • This picture is from July 8th, 2020.

  • On July 1st, I posted my first shirtless gym pic… EVER (I think)

  • Within the past two weeks, I weighed 150.2lbs and was 6.9% BodyFat.

  • I’m still working out the same amount give or take.

  • I’m still paying attention to my nutriton…THIS TIME WITH HELP.

What Changed?

I would say that at least 75% or more of my recent success is due to the fact the someone else (my nutrition coach) can see what I’m eating every day, assuming I log it for her. The other 25% or less of my success is due to the guidance she’s given me.

Before when I was taking care of my nutrition on my own, I was probably intending to consume similar amounts to what I am consuming now, BUT I was only accountable to myself, and who knows how accurate I was being. Now that I have an extra set of eyes on my intake, I am probably consuming within 1-3% of my targets every day. It takes a good amount of precision and planning, but it’s gotten so much easier.

In the past couple months, I’ve been coaching some of my gym members in their nutrition plans as well. If you want to learn more, please let me know. Having an extra set of eyes may be just what you need to break through a plateau or just get started.

As an added bonus, here’s a picture of me after I quit playing college soccer and had Chinese takeout 2-3x/week.
